If we wait until we are ready, we will be waiting for the rest of our lives........

So I am getting ready to enter the next phase of my professional life. For years, and honey I do mean years, I have dreamed about helping others travel and enjoy the sights like I do. I cannot remember when International travel became such a passion, but travel has always been an important part of my life. As a child, my parents took my sister Tammi and I on many, many road trips. Mount Rushmore, Pikes Peak, Florida, Texas, Missouri, Wisconsin and the list could go on forever. After leaving home, I traveled quite a bit with the U.S. Navy, so all in all, I have seen the majority of the USA. I still have places to see here, but my drive and passion is to travel the world, experience other cultures and lifestyles and to share with others.

In February of 2010, I traveled to Cuernavaca, Mexico via Mexico City to attend school to become an International Tour Manager. I met some wonderful people and the experiences there were fantastic. I will dwell on those in a later post. I did become certified and attempted, although not on a huge scale, to find a job where I could be a tour manager. You see, I have a job in the corporate world, and although it has been berry, berry good to me, I feel the need to move on. So you are probably thinking, TERRI - IT'S 2013, THAT WAS THREE YEARS AGO!!!!.

Yes, I know, and due to fear and love of food(yes I do like to eat), I chose to stay in the corporate world until I had some money in the bank to "live" off of in rough times. Fact of the matter is, I have not yet pursued the tour manager position with any drive, so I am still in corporate America.

In May of 2010, I bit the bullet and took off to Paris, all by my little self. I loved it, and still do, miss being there and yearn to return. But again, when you are tied to corporate America, you get limited vacation days, and to be honest, the pay just keeps you afloat.

So in the next few weeks, I will be signing on with Cruises, Inc. as a home based travel agent and the plan is to build up my business to a level where I am making enough to live without my wages from corporate America and then I will be free to move about the WORLD. Because as long as I have an Internet, I can and will sell travel.

I also plan on  using my "home" time for blogging about my favorite places I have visited, in order to encourage all of you to take that trip.

As someone once said, "Travel is the only thing you can buy that will make you richer"

Activities

I have been checking out all the activities that Tyler and I can do in Cabo. Lots of things to do.

Rancho Beach Ride - This ecologically-oriented ride takes you to the some of the finest scenery in the Los Cabos area of Baja Mexico. Ride your healthy, well-trained horse along the lapping waves of the Pacific Ocean, on a privately owned ranch, giving you a peaceful, romantic and totally wonderful horseback look at Cabo San Lucas.
The ride then takes you through lush desert foliage, including 20-foot cactus towering over the trails, and many types of wildflowers, as you explore the grounds of this ecological preserve. After your ride, you can relax and enjoy the facilities at the ranch, including the bar, lounge, and birdwatching tower.

Or how about an ATV Tour

CANDELARIA ATV TOUR
This is an epic 30-mile ATV Tour, crossing riverbeds and roads, toward the tiny Mexican community of La Candelaria, with a population of about 60 people, existing much as it has for over 200 years.
En route, you'll visit El Salto, a small waterfall that runs most of the year, providing a watering hole for local wildlife and livestock. Next stop is Los Pozos (the wells) where a small, well-preserved church still stands after 100 years, and still serves the local people.
In La Candelaria, you'll see the church, orchards, and species of animals indigenous to the region such as doves, hares, and iguanas. The people of La Candelaria are known for their long lifespans - most residents live well into their 90s!
The last stop is beautiful Migrino Beach where you'll have fun in the sun, with plenty of time to play on the white sand beaches. You'll stop here and eat lunch while gazing at the blue waters of the Pacific Ocean. In season, you may even see migrating gray whales off the coast.

Not for the Faint of Heart, the next few suggestions will probably only be enjoyed by Tyler.

EXTREME RAPPELLING - From a glass-bottomed gondola suspended 300 feet in the air, you'll launch yourself backward, and free rappel back down to earth.

PARASAILING - Experience the thrill of parasailing in Cabo San Lucas! You're pulled behind a motorboat, hundreds of feet in the air, giving you amazing aerial views of Cabo San Lucas, Los Cabos and the Baja area of Mexico. You'll fly over El Arco, Pelican Rock, and Lover's Beach as only an eagle might see them.

I will join back in the fun with the next few activites

SNORKELING - Take a fun trip in a glass bottom boat to the fabled Lovers Beach in Cabo San Lucas. See tropical fish and sea life go by as you take the quick 10 minute ride over to the beautiful hidden expanses of Lovers Beach. Playa del Amor is famous because it is located at Land's End, where one side of the beach borders the Pacific Ocean, while the other side of the beach borders the Sea of Cortez.
While on the beach, you can enjoy snorkeling, sunbathing and relaxing. When you're ready to go back to Cabo San Lucas, the glass bottomed boat will pick you up and take you back.

ARGGHHH, let the pirate in you come out to play, matey

BUCCANEER QUEEN -
Board the Buccaneer Queen pirate ship in Cabo San Lucas and embark on an adventure ye shall never forget! This 96-foot tall ship has been featured in many commercials and feature films including Cutthroat Island, starring Geena Davis - the movie was filmed almost entirely onboard! On this sunset cruise, you'll be treated to amazing sunset views of Cabo San Lucas, El Arco (The Arch), Pelican Rock, Land's End, Lovers Beach, and more! You'll even have your photo taken at sunset in front of The Arch for a memory to treasure for years to come - available for purchase after the tour.
This exciting voyage is full of raucous fun, including a pirate show that includes the ship being boarded by evil pirates and onboard duels, audience participation games, prizes, dancing, music, conga lines, and of course the all-important never-ending open bar. Let the margaritas and pina coladas flow freely as you enjoy the sunset over the Pacific, and all the fun and games.

ADIOS, AMIGOS, I will investigate the food and drink in this crazy little town next.

Cabo San Lucas

Cabo San Lucas, at the tip of the Baja Peninsula. Thought about it, pushed it out of my mind. No real desire to visit, until......my wonderful friend Ruthie started sending me pictures of her daughter's wedding which was held on the beach there. And after looking at the picture can you blame me for wanting to escape to the paradise.

Snorkling, sunbathing, swimming, horseback riding, ATV rides, and boat rides. Kayaking, eating, drinking, enjoying the sun and the air. The beautiful sea with it's blue green hues. The light sandy beaches, the coves and the rocks. So I started doing research, ah yes, I started surfing the web. And was pleased with what I found.
Unfortunately, my trip to Paris is on hold. The two women I thought would make good travel partners didn't quite work out. I felt like MY vacation to Paris had been taken over and my dreams pushed aside. So hopefully, my cousin Danette and I can go in the spring.
During my research, the first thing I found was a wonderful little hotel called the Cabo Inn. Cheap and convenient to Downtown Cabo and the beach. And so very quaint.....

I mean, look at this place, could you get anymore Mexican than this. And I am not even going to publish the prices here, not till my reservation is made and confirmed.

So did a little more research and found out the prices for activities and food are fantastic. It just so happens that my cousin Danette and her husband, Kevin are cruising that way in September, so I thought it would be a hoot if my son, Tyler and I were in Cabo when their ship sets anchor for the day. So preparations are being made, gotta get those Passports. And then we will begin the purchase of our trip. OOOO, I cannot wait. Let's see, Margaritas, Mariachis, Moonlight, mmmmm, now that sounds like my type of getaway vacation.

I'll be keeping you posted.

Paris

So let us begin with my favorite city in Europe, at least at this time. Truth is, I haven't been to Europe yet. Due to family obligations, my travel has been limited to the United States. So you may ask, if you have traveled extensively, why would you want to specialize in a place you have not had the opportunity to travel yet?

My answer to that is this, I love research and I want to do as much research as possible before I go to Europe.

Paris has been a dream of mine for years. And now I am in the final steps of planning. I posted a note on the Graffiti Board at http://www.ricksteves.com/ to help me find travel companions. Luck was with me when two lovely women from the west coast contacted me. I talked to each on the phone and our conversations were great. By chance, they were both going to be in San Francisco at the same time, so they met up and the chemistry was good. Looks like I have two companions for my trip in September 2009.

Our plans are to rent an apartment in the Louvre or Notre Dame area. This was suggested by one of the ladies who has been to Paris a couple of times. Both of these locations will allow us to get around Paris easily, using the Metro and walking.

As far as a formatted itinerary, we are basically flying by the seat of our pants, HA. The only sights I definitely want to visit are the Effiel Tower, Versailles, Louvre, Musee d'Orsay, Notre Dame, and any historical royalty places. I would like to do a day trip to London via the Chunnel and possibly a trip down to the Mediterranean.

All in all, I know that we are going to have a lovely time. I cannot wait to get on that plane.

Au revoir for now.
Terri
