Paris

So let us begin with my favorite city in Europe, at least at this time. Truth is, I haven't been to Europe yet. Due to family obligations, my travel has been limited to the United States. So you may ask, if you have traveled extensively, why would you want to specialize in a place you have not had the opportunity to travel yet?

My answer to that is this, I love research and I want to do as much research as possible before I go to Europe.

Paris has been a dream of mine for years. And now I am in the final steps of planning. I posted a note on the Graffiti Board at http://www.ricksteves.com/ to help me find travel companions. Luck was with me when two lovely women from the west coast contacted me. I talked to each on the phone and our conversations were great. By chance, they were both going to be in San Francisco at the same time, so they met up and the chemistry was good. Looks like I have two companions for my trip in September 2009.

Our plans are to rent an apartment in the Louvre or Notre Dame area. This was suggested by one of the ladies who has been to Paris a couple of times. Both of these locations will allow us to get around Paris easily, using the Metro and walking.

As far as a formatted itinerary, we are basically flying by the seat of our pants, HA. The only sights I definitely want to visit are the Effiel Tower, Versailles, Louvre, Musee d'Orsay, Notre Dame, and any historical royalty places. I would like to do a day trip to London via the Chunnel and possibly a trip down to the Mediterranean.

All in all, I know that we are going to have a lovely time. I cannot wait to get on that plane.

Au revoir for now.
